FPGA Design: PCI Express (PCIe) Applications

PCI express (PCIe) is increasingly replacing the conventional PCI bus. The serial protocol PCI Express shows a considerably increased bandwidth with a low number of circuit paths. Intel's new Atom Processors for low-budget and current-saving systems also contribute to the replacement of PCI, since in the belonging chip set US15W the legacy interface PCI will not be included any longer.

With the help of FPGAs, I/O components like:

• Digital-IO
• ADCs
• DACs
• Field busses

can be linked to the PCI express bus. In order to achieve that, we use soft IP as well as hard macros.
